Panasonic AG DVX200 - 4K camera Workshop.
After effects has always been the bain of my life, I really don't get along with the programme I find it very confusing at times and it can be really tedious with working frame by frame. However, this doesn't mean that I don't know how to use the software i've been able to use after effects at a bsic level now for 4 years, but because i don't use very ofter this workshop was a very good refresher for me as it reminded me how to remove a background and how to apply a key light.
So today we finally got our hands on the Universities Panasonic 4K camera, for me this was like going into a toy shop when I was young. I very much enjoyed getting my hands on the very first 4K camera I've used and I learnt a lot of different aspects for using a 4K camera. In today's workshop, we were set the task of just familiarising ourselves with the camera and then shotting an interview based on our idea. It was a good refresher having not used a camera in a while.
Green Screen workshop:
in this workshop, we got to use the brand new green screen room built inside the base room. I have to say I was quite keen to finally get a chance to use the green screen room as I've never really used a green screen properly and I thought it was about time I learnt just so I knew in the future. Ferg really went into detail on how important it is to separate the background from the subject, doing this meant it would be easier in the edit. Another important thing we learnt in today's workshop was how to correctly light the green screen to prevent shadows and green spills on the subject. To do this we needed to use the technique called 3-point lighting, which is when you have a key light, backlight and fill light. However, we wouldn't have a backlight we'd use that light to prevent any shadows being cast. The reason it's so important to get the lighting right is that the green screen needs to be the same shade of green if there is a different shade we wouldn't then be able to easily change it in after effects, as we would have to then try and get rid of two greens rather than one.
