Test shoots

Test shoots.

We managed to do at least a couple of test shots that really helped us when it came to the final filming day for using the green screen. I have used a green screen before a couple of times, but never for an actual project. I used it at college and I managed to get a little one on one with Fergus last academic year, which gave me a little insight into how to properly light the green screen.

What Went Well:
  • Lighting
  • Aodhan's presenting.
During our test shoot, we had some really good elements that I liked about it. Firstly, I felt like the lighting we achieved for the test shoots went really well as we managed to prevent any most of the green spill on his face. As you can see from the video Aodhan only has minor green spills on the left side of his face, this can be easily removed in After Effects however it would be a lot less time consuming if we could prevent spills in the first place. For our actual filming days, we will try and focus on getting rid of that green spill, by doing that we could move one of the LED lights so they focus on getting rid of it.

Aodhan's presenting skills we're really good, I liked the way he used his arms and to express what he was saying. To start off with before we started recording we all noticed that he was tripping on his words and kept losing where he was. This is when we said to him that he needs to slow down and speak clearly. Once he started doing that the shoot seemed a lot better because we could actually understand what he was saying which meant that the audience would understand him.

What didn't go well:
  • Reflection of lights in his glasses.
  • kept looking away from the camera
  • Not knowing his lines.
As you can tell from the video of the shoot that we had some minor problems, but nothing too serious that we can't fix for when it comes to the filming day. One thing we all noticed straight away was that we could clearly see the reflection of the lights in his glasses. This is something that can easily be solved by taking his glasses off, the only problem with that is he can't see the teleprompter so he'd have to learn his lines before the shoot. Another problem we noticed is that he kept looking away from the camera this was only because he kept forgetting what the script says, he has at least a few days to really learn the script so when it comes to filming have plenty of time to learn the script.

Finally, to summeriese the test shoot had I felt like it went suprisingly well considering we'd only used the green screen once before. I think we all took away the improtant and useful information from the green screen workshop and used what we knew in our test shoot. We also solved a lot of issues that we didnt even think about before going into the test like us not having a telepromter or reflections, but we managed to find quick and easy solutions. So when it does come to filming we can be profesional and fast witht the set-up so we can then have a longer time filming.
