Documentary - Idea Development

Idea development.

On Wednesday the 13th we went into our groups and had to brainstorm some ideas for this unit. We decided to do a mind map of all our ideas and then once we came up with a good amount we chose 4 top ones we were all interested in. However, our documentary has to be made as if it were a BBC three documentary. This meant that our target audience would be around the ages of 16 to 34 year-olds.

Our Ideas:

Idea 1 - How to be Happy (loneliness)

With this idea, we thought it would be a good and strong concept for a documentary. However, after going through all the pros and cons of this topic, we came to the conclusion that this topic has recently become a more recognizable as mental health is on the rise as more teenagers are suffering because of social media. Also, this topic is all over the news constantly and we thought that people who don't suffer from mental health wouldn't find it interesting and we would lose some of the audience.

Idea 2 - Dark Web

We thought our second idea would be an interesting topic to cover because a lot of people know about the Dark web, but we wanted to dive into how it came around. Everyone is capable of getting onto the dark web, however, it would be dangerous for me and the other members of my group to investigate the dark web as it's full of illegal actions.

Idea 3 - Online Gambling

Our third idea we all agreed as being the best idea. Sara had the idea of exploring online gambling and how easy it has become for younger generations to get a hold of. We wanted to uncover why there's not much being done to prevent the younger generation from starting gambling. We decided we wanted to look at the history of gambling, how it's evolved to online, the psychology behind gambling, a few people affected by gambling, and finally what's being done to prevent the youth from 'falling into the trap' as it were. Also, all three of us know people who gamble and it's become so big now that a lot of people would want to talk about it, however, the only problem with this idea is that we would struggle to find real addicts that would be comfortable with talking about their problem and betting shops or casinos that would let us film in there.

Idea 4 - How to survive the apocolypse.

Our fouth and final idea was 'how to survive the apocolyspe' we thought this would be an interesting topic to talk about as some people do really think the end is near for our planet so they go all out to try and protect their families from a potential threat. We would be looking for people to interview that have gone to this extent to see why they've sacrificed their lives worrying about something that might not happen in thier lifetime. On the other hand we thought about the idea as a whole and came to the conclusion that this topic is to broad and that it would't fit the breif. So we won't be advancing on this topic.
