Production - Evaluation

Image
Evaluation This unit has been a great experience for me as it's given me a chance to show off all the skill I have learnt in the last 3 years of being at university. I am really proud of the final outcome of the film and in this evaluation, I will be going over some areas where I think I have done really well, and some areas where I could improve. Overall, I think that the work I have done for this unit shows that I have a strong understanding of the job role I have take (which is a Director of Photography. I have shown a strong understanding of how the job works and what it takes to plan and produce a short film. Research In the research area of this unit, I knew that I wanted to expand on the research I had already produced in the pre-production unit. In the previous unit, I focused more on how the in-camera settings worked and what type of equipment I wanted to use for our film. After that Unit, I knew what equipment I wanted to use, so for this unit I wanted to explore more cr...

Production - Production development

Project Development In this blog post, I will be covering the key moments of change within our production leading up to shoot week, shoot week, and post-production. I will be covering moments where I discovered something that could potentially improve our film.  Location change and script changes that affected me The first major change that happened during this production was the fact that our producer and director felt that our film was too optimistic. The original script included multiple locations and very complex VFX shots, which were well above our skill level. This change would really affect the progress of the work I have done up until this moment. Due to location changes and the script having changes meant that the location paperwork for the locations up until then have now become obsolete. This was not the only reason for a location change we had to change the location due to COVID-19 restrictions. We were hoping that through James' connection with the Isle of Sheppey poli...

Production - Professional Practice

Professional Practice  Dop and their role and responsibilities throughout Pre-production and Production. A Director of Photography (DoP) is not a job role that people recognise straight away, however, a DoP has one of the most important jobs in all areas of filmmaking as they have crucial jobs to do in Pre-production, production, and post-production. A DoP has many jobs to produce and a lot of problem-solving leading up to filming “The director of photography is an integral part of storytelling process as they are the person who captures the director’s vision on camera.” (MasterClass Staff. 2021) which means that a DoP would have special relationships with other departments so that everything works smoothly on the shoot days. Not only does a DoP have special relationships with other departments, but they are in charge of everything that affects the camera for example they would control the composition, exposure, lighting, filters, and camera movements. The DoP would have to ...
