BLOG POST H: Project evaluation

Project Evaluation Pitch: The pitch element to this unit I worked with Ewan and together we came up with a couple ideas for the pitch that we had to do. Our first idea was a football-based game show which would get a number of contestants to play against each other in football-based games and ending the show with a penalty shootout. This idea sounded great on paper, however, when Ewan and I started to think about the criteria and we both noticed that we would struggle to meet the criteria. With this, we decided to not take this idea any further but doing this meant that we needed to think of another idea to pitch. We struggled to begin with thinking of a new idea and we eventually go some inspiration from Helen as she told us about a previous year's Live show. The live show that we were told to look at was an idea that had contestants play pub games. With this Ewan and I made our show 'The Pub Crawl' which was a quiz/game show that got local pub teams to play...

Content and Production Role Research Shows that we've been told to look at: Our producers came up to us camera operators to give us some advice on what we should be looking for, this is because they had the idea of the VT's looking very cinematic so they told us to go and watch either Game of Thrones or Netflix The Witcher, with watching these shows we can get a sense of what we should be working towards. I noticed when watching them they use there lighting to give off natural light, this is very key to giving the illusion that the show and the characters are real. In the first season of Game of Thrones, the DP and Directors wanted natural lighting for the interior shot so they would use candles to light the scene, however, this was challenging for the Dp to see anything through the camera and also having to keep using candles slowly consumed the budget, so in later seasons they made the decision to use more lights to get the same effect. After looking more into Game of...

25th February 2020 Camera Workshop #1: In this workshop, we had our first real session with professional Del Brown which was great to get an understanding of the pressures of working in a live show. We started the workshop off by simply splitting up into multiple groups, we then were told to look at every aspect of the camera as we were doing this Del would come round to each group and question us on our knowledge of the camera. However, with the camera operators, he would ask more challenging questions, as he was trying to test our knowledge and ability on the camera, so he would know if we were right for the job. Once we all felt comfortable with our camera and tripod settings Del asked us all to form a line with the camera all facing in one direction. The task was simple yet very effective, each camera had one operator and one model, the camera operator had to follow and keep the model in focus. Whilst doing this Del would tell the camera operators to change to different shots, ...

Analysis of the structure, branding, graphics and presentation methods to a studio production relevant to Quest CBBC Raven episode 1 series 3. Structure: Raven & his group of Warriors. Raven was a very popular children's game show, which started in 2002 and had a long successful run of 8 years when it stopped in 2010. However, the show has recently seen new light as they have started to make more with a brand new host. The show was roughly 30 minutes long (ad break included) and saw 6 adventures take on different challenges in each episode. The show followed a very simple story-line and in each episode, each contestant would have 7 golden feathers which would represent how many lives they had, once a contestant has lost all their feathers they would be sent home. The main character "Raven" was also the host and presenter as he would lead the children to each game, his role was to keep the story flowing smoothly and he was also a mentor to the children ...

Analysis of the concept and content from a production relevant to Quest Concept: Splatalot is a TV game show for children, which includes 12 contestants making their way through timed obstacle courses to then battle against each other in fun games to become king/Queen of Splatalot. The show has a Takeshi castle feel as the children would go through many different obstacle courses with in character villains trying to stop them from winning. The contestants would work on their own to complete 3 different courses, the first being a timed course so the quickest times would advance to the 2nd round. The second round involves them individually building ladders to escape, the 4 who escape first go to the final round where they win the Crown and become King or Queen of Splatalot. The show is a spinoff from another BBC game show Total Wipeout, however, they have changed the rules accordingly the better suit children. Running order of Splatalot: Opening credits (showing off the 12...
