Script to screen - Analysis of a screenwriter 01

Image
Steven Moffat Who's is he? Born on November 18th, 1961 in Scotland, Steven Moffat is a well known writer and producer, best known for his work on Sherlock, Doctor Who, and a feature film called The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn. His big break came in 1989 on ITV's BAFTA-winning drama, Press Gang, which he wrote all 43 episode. He also won another BAFTA in 2008 for the episode of Doctor Who 'Blink', which is one of my all time favourite episodes of Doctor Who. He said in a interview "I didn't expect Blink to do so well considering the Doctor isn't in it" that fact that he won an award without the main character in the show just tells you how good his writing can be. What has he done? Here is a list I found on IMDb of all the work he has done in his career. Stay Lucky - TV Series - Writer 1 episode - 1990 Exam Conditions - TV movie - 1992 Press Gang - TV Series - Wrote 43 episodes - 1989-93 Jokin...

Script to screen - Pre-Production

Image
Pre-Production Trailer/extract For my production I shall be doing a 2 minute extract. The reason why I'll be doing this is because I feel as if I can show my cinematography skills off better. I want to work behind the camera in the coming future and with a trailer I feel as if it would be showing off my editing skills. Also, the beginning of my script shows off the 2 main characters off really well and hopefully with the shot list I work on will help show more emotion of the characters. Schedule  Filming days - I'm looking to film on Wednesday 27th and Thursday 28th. I could get all filming done easily on the 27th, but I'm going to look through the footage I get that day and if anything needs to be re-filmed I have the 28th for that. On the day: 9:30am - meet outside and I will go through all the health and safety points of the building just incase of a fire or anything else. 9:45 am - begin to set up the equipment. this should take...

Script to Screen - How I can Improve my idea

Image
How I can Improve my Idea. On Monday we presented our 25 word pitch to Steve Combes and here's the feedback I received. The thing I got the most from the feedback was that my idea was interesting to say the least. However, what came with it was an unbelievable dilemma that is easy to be solved. I wanted to get across the theme of what would you do if you could save the world or become brain dead; what would you decide. Steve, said that that was him he knew what he's pick straight away. This meant that the character would realistically pick the brain dead option so what I need to do is change (not the whole idea) the dilemma in which my character has. I need to make it less predictable so that the audience when watching the film would be more shocked and surprised with what she picks. As this would be a key moment in the film that they will remember when coming out from watching it.  Also he mentioned that people don't die from schizophrenia which makes it...

Script to Script - Camera Workshop_02

Camera Workshop_02 Coverage. Coverage is story telling with either pictures or moving images. Set ups - This is when you move or change the camera, which means everything needs to be adjusted to help with continuity. When looking at how you want to look like, you should always return back to the script to help out with the creative juices. Details. Close ups shows emotion emotion in the subject, character, and even the story. Developing shots is when the focus shifts from one character or subject to another, but it's technically the same shot. What is a scene? Block out the action - You need to plan and forget about the filming. If you don't plan your production will crumble through your fingertips and there's nothing you can do. Work out shots needed - This can either be done through a shot list or a story board. I personally prefer a shot list because I'm terrible at drawing. Plan and test - If you done plan and test your shots ...

Script to Screen - Camera Workshop_01

Sony XDCAM EX 3x1/2 inch cmos sensors Cine Altra developed by Sony, which means it has good contrast and shots 5x5 memory card records in MP4 When Setting up the camera there are a few checks that must become second nature, they called this "SWEFF". This stands for sound, white balance, exposure, frame and focus. A few buttons and secrets on the camera With the focus ring it must always be pushed back as this turns of the auto focus so I'd have an easier time when filming. Peaking is good for showing the sharpness in your shot. It does this by highlighting the small monitor on the camera. Always white balance by pushing the small button, but as Sam said after a few times using the white balance I should start to know what kelvin specific shots should be at. DON'T use the top of the camera for zooming/ tracking as it can be jumpy. Use the zoom on the lens for a easier time. White Balance: In the corner of the camera screen it comes ...
