Screen to Screen - Script talk with Steve Coombes.

Script talk with Steve Coombes. Stage Directions. Don't use too many full caps words, this can be misleading as some people use them for importance but it could also suggest they're shouting. If the camera can't see it don't put it in the action. Keep action short (tell the audience what they need to know). Avoid adjectives Verbs are good  Always use the same description when describing a location. Dialogue. Avoid having un-needed dialogue. if it doesn't further the plot then don't use it. in screenplays don't have people giving their life story. if people say whats on their mind it doesn't work as its not realistic. don't make it too formal, real people don't talk like text books. should sound like natural talking, but don't make it too natural. be careful of long speeches. Not everything has to be dialogue. Be aware of accents  Avoid information tell, information should be shown not said.  Character. you ...

Script to Screen - Editing Workshop_02

Editing workshop_02 In todays session I still felt as if the editing was really basic, but I have to remember that the majority of the class probably hasn't used Premiere Pro before. So I decided to just get on with the editing which was based on a coffee farm in Uganda. Although I know how to use the programme I am finding the short cuts really useful as they didn't show us at our college. This is really helpful because it's cutting down how long it takes me to edit. Also, during the last hour I decided to try make do with my time so I started editing the second camera workshop filming I done. Here is the edit I put together in like a hour.

Script to Screen - Monday 8th Pitching.

Schizo Genre: Drama. Pitch:   "A woman is torn between two decisions, what will she decide before the schizophrenia takes over." A World where the majority of the population is dying of Schizophrenia , young 23 year old woman "Sarah" is going to meet up with the doctors to find out about her recent test results. Sarah meets up with young impressional Dr. Anne to discuss an important matter thats come up. She finds out that she has and un-developed cure for her condition. However, if she was to go ahead with the operation she would become brain dead, but if she doesn't she'll die from the  schizophrenia   . So throughout the story she finds herself in conflict with herself as she slowly starts to battle her own demons, but is this enough to persuade her to take the surgery. Locations:  I only want to use 2 locations, which would be a flat or a house that "Sarah" is living and the doctors office with a few filler handheld filler s...

Script to Screen - Editing workshop

Image
Editing workshop Today we had aour first editing workshop. We learnt how to use Prelude, however I didn't like it at all. I felt that it was quite pointless, the only good thing was that you could put all the clips in a rough cut. This pretty much means that you could have a sort of storyboard style and you could see all your clips clearly and rearrange them. As I've been using Premier Pro for over 2 years now I knew the basics. I know I'm not very good at editing so I'm hoping in future workshops that I will discover and learn new techniques to help with my edit when it comes to it. Here is the small edit that I made today, as you can see I need to improve in my audio as it hasn't mixed very well. hopefully, we'll be taught better techniques to help me out with that. Overall I'm quite happy with this edit I made as I feel I put the shots in a good order with what we got. You can see a part of a story coming along.

Potential ideas for my short. 1) My first idea is a dark comedy based around a teenager that meets with a drug dealer, but then realises that the drug dealer is slowly becoming more intense every-time they meet. So, the teenager must find a way to get out of old habits quick before it's too late.  Potential locations that I could think of are: A simple ally which gets darker each time he goes. I like the sound of this because If I was to do this I'd have the actors not realise so only the audience would pick it up. Potential character looks: 1) I want the drug dealer to be a woman as this goes against the stereotype of men normally being the criminal. She would look normal the first couple of times, but as they meet up more she starts to look more corrupt from the drugs as they start to take over. As you can see from the photo on the left, I want her to look really feminine; to the look like the woman on the right. the way I'd make her ch...

Scrip to Screen - Top 10 tips to writing a screenplay.

Top 10 Tips To Writing a Screenplay In this blog I'm going to use the tips that I learnt from Steve Coombes taught our group and my interpretation of his tips. 1) The Theory of moments: Moments are what make Tv and Film stand out. If you were to come out of the cinema just after watching the film, you wouldn't talk about the plot in detail. what you would talk about are the moments you can remember that meant something to you. Moments can be anything: Funny, sad, scary, and so on. These are the things that stick with us after watching them. Before writing a script it's best to think to yourself, think of a moment that works. In the past a good film would consist of 3 moments for each act, but now-a-days a good film could consist up to 5 memorable moments. When it comes to writing my own screenplay, before I start typing I need at least 3 memorable moments that would hopefully mean something to the audience. 2) The Need to know: When writing a script you...
